Our newest Athlete Profile is Alex Yarborough, a 919er we got to know on her first night out with us at the 919 Thanksgiving Dinner. Alex was a brand new member with no family in town (other than her adorable dog Muki), and we were a little worried when the night took a turn and Cards Against Humanity came out. Luckily Alex joined right in; she even earned a 919 nickname that night (D.T.) and thrilled us by not immediately quitting the gym despite our behavior. A Louisiana native, Alex went to dental school at UNC and then specialized in Prosthodontics (oral reconstruction) at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (2013 grad!). She’s now a Clinical Assistant Professor at UNC School of Dentistry, where she loves helping patients with complex needs, teaching dental students and doing dental research. Alex is a Captain in the US Army Reserve 810th Dental Company in Cary, where she serves on a part time basis doing Prosthodontics. Alex also loves traveling and has been all over Russia, Madagascar, Scotland, New Zealand, and Australia among other places. Next on her list is either Paris, London, or Hong Kong (hmmm… perhaps the next 919 international trip???). 919 has turned out to be a good fit for Alex; she says that her favorite thing about CrossFit is the people she’s met and the friends she’s made at 919, although she also loves the variety and not having to plan her own workouts. CrossFit can’t be all fun and games, though, and Alex is not shy to say she really hates wall balls and for those of you who tend to get hit in the face every so often, she is accepting new patients at the UNC Faculty Practice and would be happy to fix your smile anytime.
It’s going to be a great weekend 919ers! First we’ll take on the last Open WOD on Sat. morning. If you’re not registered you can scale the workout, so don’t be shy about coming out! After the workout we’ve got a presentation by Active Life Concepts about managing inflammation brought on by either diet or exercise. Sat. night we’ll say goodbye to Brendan and Ally at City Bev., and Sunday at 12:30 Ashley will be doing a mobility session to help you recover from 14.5. Hope to see everyone out ALL WEEKEND LONG! We just can’t get enough of the 919 crew…
